In November 2008, the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation partnered with the U.S. Commercial Service, a federal trade promotion unit of the International Trade Administration, to help four leading Rhode Island medical companies participate in the “Best of New England Pavilion” at MEDICA 2008 in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Pentair Electronic Packaging Expands Operations in Rhode Island, Adds 80 New Jobs

Pentair Electronic Packaging has announced that the company will relocate several manufacturing product lines from Poway, California to the company’s Warwick, Rhode Island facility. The product line transfers will create additional new jobs at the Warwick site. The company expects the transfer to be completed by July 2009.

Support from RIMES Yields Increased Profits and Jobs for Local Manufacturers

The Rhode Island Manufacturing Extension Services, a non-profit organization providing complete manufacturing solutions to Rhode Island's small and medium-sized manufacturers, announced that it has yielded a positive return of a $450,256 investment by the National Institute of Standards and Technology of 42 to 1 for the Rhode Island economy.

Mission Report: September Hong Kong Jewelry and Watch Fair

The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation partnered with the state of New York to recruit jewelry companies from both states to participate in the Hong Kong Jewelry and Watch Fair 2008. As a result of this successful collaboration, 14 jewelry manufacturers who are new to the Hong Kong market were able to participate in the September show.

Carcieri Names Deepwater Wind as Developer for Rhode Island’s Off-Shore Wind Farm

Governor Donald L. Carcieri announced that Deepwater Wind was chosen as the successful developer to construct a wind energy project off the shores of Rhode Island that will provide 1.3 million megawatt hours per year of renewable energy – 15 percent of all electricity used in the state.

Aspen Aerogels Opens $30-million Facility in East Providence

The budget passed by the Rhode Island General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Carcieri is good for the state’s economy. Our 2008 Economic Growth Plan made clear that the state has to get control over its spending without raising broad-based taxes. The fiscal 2009 budget does exactly that. Do not underestimate how important this is to improving our business climate and stimulating job creation.

The RI-SCM Summit will bring together both the public and private sectors to promote best practices of SCM within the state as well as highlight the expertise and resources available in SCM to RI institutions. The event will be held from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at the George E. Bello Center for Information Technology at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI.

RIMES' M.O.S.T. Program Wins State Award

At a June 12, 2007 awards ceremony, RIMES was presented "the Creative Partnership Award" by the Workforce partnership of Greater Rhode Island from Dottie Miller, Acting Executive Director and Steven Kitchin, Chair. The award was given in recognition of the contributions to the state workforce by the RIMES M.O.S.T (Machine Operators Skills Training) program. Governor Carcieri presented the award to Leslie Taito, RIMES CEO and Ed Murphy, RIMES M.O.S.T Program Manager. The Governor then presented them a gubernatorial citation of congratulations.

Manufacturing is an integral part of Rhode Island's economy. From robotics to yachts, from metal tools to plastics, Rhode Island products are used by companies and individuals around the world. In 2002, fully 10.5 percent of Rhode Island's gross state product (and 12 percent of the private-sector GSP) was generated from manufacturing.
